Dr. Gago-Masague presents Pain Buddy at the 2015 Medicine 2.0 Congress, Maui, US

I conduct cross-disciplinary research in assistive and educational technologies, mentoring students in areas such as product and software engineering, information systems, design and prototyping, the Internet of Things, and serious games. My work is inherently collaborative, and I have been fortunate to partner with colleagues across computer science, engineering, physics, education, psychology, nursing, pediatrics, and the arts, as well as with public agencies, utilities, and industry.

Over the course of my career, I have contributed as principal investigator or co-lead on projects supported by the NIH, NSF, PCORI, the Department of Energy, the California Energy Commission, Southern California Edison, and industry partners such as Asahi Group Holdings. These collaborations, supported by more than $10M in cumulative external funding, have aimed to advance equitable computing education, digital health systems, and IoT/AI platforms that serve diverse users. Many of my graduate and undergraduate students have co-authored publications and shared their work at leading venues including SIGCSE, FIE, EDUCON, EAAI, IJCNN, and WF-IoT. I view these accomplishments as shared successes that reflect the dedication and creativity of my students and collaborators.
