Current Graduate Researchers

Jared Apillanes

PhD Student

japillan@uci.edu

Jared is exploring how computer science education can be enhanced through emerging technologies at both the administrative and instructional levels. Previously, he supported introductory CS course redesigns at UCI to promote inclusivity and reduce staff overhead. Outside of research, Jared enjoys cycling around Irvine, cooking, and cat-sitting.

Margarita Geleta

PhD Student

mgeleta@uci.edu

Margarita holds a Bachelor’s in Data Science and Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). Her research spans audio steganography and deep learning applied to genomics. She brings a strong interdisciplinary background to the lab, with past internships at Stanford School of Medicine and the Image Processing Group at UPC.

Manuel Segura

PhD Student

mesegur1@uci.edu

Manuel brings over a decade of experience in the defense industry, having developed satellite software for hypersonic threat detection. He holds degrees in CS and Math from CSULA and a master’s in CS from Cal Poly Pomona. He now investigates secure embedded systems and human-centric IoT solutions under Dr. Gago-Masague.

Amisha Priyadarshini

PhD Student

apriyad1@uci.edu

Amisha’s research lies at the intersection of machine learning and human behavior. With a background in mathematics from NIT Rourkela (India), she has worked on projects involving deep learning, statistics, and interpretability. Outside of research, she writes blogs and creates digital illustrations.
